Description: 1920s Western Electric 151AL candlestick rotary telephone with scissor gate. This desk stand or "candlestick" telephone sows how the telephone company upgraded telephones as technology evolved. The phone is a 50AL put in service in the 1920s ad was factory updated in the late 1930s early 1940s with a "Bull Dog" transmitter, HAI receiver and a 5H dial. The original 50Al stamp located on the back of the perch was redesignated as a 151AL by adding the 1 and restamping a 1 through the 0. This telephone is mounted to a "scissor gate" for easy access and has a headset instead of a hand held receiver. This phone was probably used for a dispatcher or anyone who was on the phone for a long time. A modern network was installed in this telephone to assure proper operation on a current telephone network. There is no ringer attached to the phone but it can be used as a fully operational extension and to make calls. The telephone is mounted temporarily on a plaque for display. It will require a proper mounting of the scissor gate to a fixed table to be safely used. The phone is equipped with a line cord and modular connector for connection to a standard telephone jack.
